About Admission Process

Admission of orphans:

We get children from bus stands, railway stations, temples, and even at the main gate of the Gurukulam. Abandoned children are also sent from hospitals. COVID-19 has given birth to another new social issue of orphan children with emotional challenges as well. All these children are admitted to the Gurukulam without any reservations and by carefully following the Government norms. We are registered under Department of Social Defence (Commissionerate of Social Defence) and we run in accordance with the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015. Also, well-structured additional procedures like verifying details about the parents etc. are followed before we admit these children to the orphanage. Government certification from someone at the level of a "Tahsildar" is obtained to verify if the parents of the child are deceased and if the kid really needs help from an NGO. The Tahsildar also checks, certifies, and qualifies a kid to be admitted in an orphanage based on the annual income of the guardian of the child. Additionally, a secured document preferably an "F.I.R" is also obtained from the local police station in certain cases.

Admission Of Senior Citizens:

Recognizing the unique value, our Gurukulam was the first organization in the State that provided a home for orphan children and senior citizens under the same roof. The Gurukulam's calm and relaxing environment helps these elders spend the remaining years of their life peacefully. The organization provides food and shelter along with basic medical facilities to these elders. Dormitories and cottages are provided in our old age home for both men and women. These dorms and cottages include all the basic facilities like a bed, fan, table and chair, water facilities etc. Please download our "Terms & Conditions" document that gives details on getting admitted in our Gurukulam. One of the major advantages of our organization is that all the orphaned kids have the support of the tens of senior citizens who themselves are neglected by their kith and kin. The kids do not feel that they are born as orphans and they can select one or more of the tens of senior citizens as their father, mother, grandma or grandpa. In return, the senior citizens get love and affection from hundreds of tiny tots when they need it the most.

Meal Plan:

Starting early in the day with sathumaav kanchi (multigrain porridge), every day we provide food with nourishment ensuring healthy growth of our Gurukulam children and fitness of our elders. All meals are usually served in the dining hall. Around 8.30 a.m., for breakfast, we usually provide a tiffin like dosa/idly/upma/pongal with milk (tea/coffee for elders). Lunch is served at 1.00 pm. For lunch, we usually serve rice, sambar, rasam, buttermilk, curry or kootu along with a sweet, pappad etc. Evening, snacks are served to the elders and protein bars alike to children. We ensure nutritious & balanced food is provided at all times. So even while giving a snack, we ensure it is either a kadalai mittai/chikki/peanut candy or fruits. Keeping good health in mind, we also do not provide sweet, pappad etc on a daily basis. Dinner is served around 8 pm. For dinner, we usually provide items like chapathi/dal/kurma, kichadi, variety rice, or tiffin items. Sick and diabetic residents are served food according to their requirements. Special care is taken to cook quality food to keep elders and kids in good health. On festival days and special occasions, children, elder, and staff are provided with special meals served on plantain leaves. As a donor, you can absorb our daily cost of food as a cosponsor for all our children, elders, and caretakers (e.g., during any special occasion of yours/loved ones like birthday, wedding day etc).
